FITNESS and DEVELOPMENT
The general aim of these designs is to promote physical fitness for all children while simultaneously developing their motor skills. Of course, this is particularly important for children experiencing mild to moderate delays in physical development, spacial awareness and social interaction, particularly for children in the 4 to 12 year age group.
Activities in the playground generally address the following:
- Muscular strength, breathing and endurance
- Refinement of balancing skills
- Development of co-ordination skills
- Encourages bilateral and reciprocal arm movement
- Provides a variety of sensory experiences (tactile, vestibular, proprioceptive and visual stimuli)
- Improves perception of space, body awareness and judgement (position, direction, size and space)
